“Life is short and there will always be dirty dishes, so let’s dance.”

— James Howe

The Story (so far)

Imaginative Movement started as a dream…not the type of dream that feels attainable or even plausible, but the type that fills your soul with a sense of wonder, all the same.

As with any dream worth pursuing, this one meant taking a leap away from a life I’d always known, and falling into one I could only imagine.

After 15 years as a dance and fitness instructor, the pull to follow this dream finally grew to be too strong; stronger than all of the fears that had been holding me back; stronger than my desire for security and familiarity; stronger than the gravity that had kept me safely tethered to my place in the world. (Sometimes, it is just about trusting yourself enough to take that first leap.)

So…

I leapt.

In my classes, I often rely on imagination to help students understand exercises or visualize movements. With this dream, it has been no different. Each day since this journey began, I’ve been called upon to use my imagination to envision something completely new, to redefine my idea of what it means to be fit, to reorient myself to a new way of experiencing dance, to create a space that I’m proud of, to bring my dream to life.

The result of all of this dreaming and planning and conceptualizing is Imaginative Movement: a dance and fitness studio that places fun, family and inclusivity at the forefront of it’s mission…a studio that values playfulness over pressure and progress over perfection, a space that aims to be approachable, accessible, honest and inspiring.

While I hope that you love the time we spend together in class, getting fit and having fun, more than anything, I hope that you hold with you this idea that your dreams have a place in the world…that the life you imagine for yourself is more than a distant possibility.

While it’s true that our dreams have a way of hiding away from time to time, tucking themselves just beyond the horizon…sometimes, all we need to find them, is just a little leap.
